Editorial Standards, Corrections and Right of Reply
The standards that govern every investigation, summary, and analysis published on Qatar Exposed — and how we correct errors and hear every named party.
Qatar Exposed is a public-interest archive that curates and summarizes published reporting about Qatar. We do not manufacture claims. Every factual statement is attributed to a named, verifiable source, and every claim is labeled by its epistemic status. The policies below are binding on our editorial team and are public for accountability.
Editorial Mission
About Qatar Exposed — Evidence-Based Investigations into Qatar's Global Influence
- The site investigates public-interest issues involving Qatar.
- Claims are based on public records, court filings, official reports, media investigations, sanctions records, lobbying disclosures, corporate registries, and expert sources.
- Every serious allegation must include source links.
- The site offers right of reply and corrections.
Sourcing Policy
- Every article links to a named, identifiable original source. We do not publish anonymous, unattributed, or single-source claims as established fact.
- We prioritize primary sources: court documents, official records, government and parliamentary reports, recognized NGOs, and established international media.
- When a source is itself an allegation, the article is labeled accordingly (see Evidence Classification) — never as fact.
- We link directly to original reporting and use excerpts for commentary and reporting under fair dealing; we do not reproduce sources in full.
- Sources are re-checked at publication and on periodic review; broken or retracted sources are updated or noted.
Evidence Classification
Each article carries an evidence level. The four classifications we use:
Established by official records, court rulings, government findings, or multiple independent primary sources.
Reported as fact, with citation to the establishing record.
Reported by a named source but not independently established or adjudicated.
Always attributed ("according to…"); never presented as proven.
Actively contested by a named party or contradicted by other credible sources.
Both the claim and the rebuttal are presented, with sources.
Subject of an active official or journalistic inquiry with no established outcome.
Reported as ongoing; no conclusion is implied.
The classification appears in each article's metadata and in its NewsArticle structured data, so readers and AI systems can distinguish established fact from reported allegation.
Separation Between Opinion and Investigation
- Investigations are fact-based, source-cited reporting. Every factual claim links to a source; no claim is asserted without one.
- Opinion and analysis are clearly labeled as such (evidence level: "opinion / analysis"), include the author's interpretation, and never present unproven claims as fact.
- No paid, sponsored, promotional, or advocacy content is published as editorial. Any paid partnership — if ever accepted — is disclosed and separated from reporting.
Correction Policy
- Errors are corrected promptly once verified. Minor fixes (typos, formatting) are updated with a revised last-modified date; substantive corrections receive a dated correction notice appended to the article.
- Significant factual errors — wrong attribution, incorrect figures, or a misrepresented claim — get a visible correction note explaining what changed and why.
- Retractions are not silent deletions: a retraction notice is published explaining why the article was removed.
- Anyone may request a correction via our corrections form or the contact details below; requests are reviewed within five business days.
Legal Review Policy
- Legally sensitive content — defamation risk, ongoing litigation, or claims about named individuals — is reviewed before publication for accuracy, attribution, and fair dealing.
- We rely on attributed reporting from established sources rather than making independent factual assertions. We do not publish content we know to be false or that recklessly disregards verification.
- Where a legal risk is identified, we seek the right of reply before publication where practicable.
- We comply with valid legal takedown orders and respond to good-faith correction requests from affected parties.
Right of Reply
- Any named party — individual, company, or government — is offered the opportunity to respond, before or after publication.
- Substantive responses are published on the relevant article, attributed to the respondent and timestamped.
- Responses are not edited in a way that changes meaning; factual corrections are applied; the original claim and the reply are presented together.

Bylines, Dates & Transparency
- Every article carries a byline (the named author or "Editorial Desk"), a publication date, and a last-modified date.
- The organization behind the content — Qatar Exposed — is identified in the publisher field of each article's NewsArticle structured data and on the About page.
- This policy is versioned: the effective and last-reviewed dates above reflect the current version.
